The article covered what's now called Augustine's Laws. (Helpful reading, Brooks on THE MYTHICAL MAN MONTH, Norm Augustine's AUGUSTINE'S LAWS, anything by Tom DeMarco/). I see they are out in book form: and some of them have been excerpted by Political Calculations blog, but the version I have has a mere 15 laws. Augustine inherited a dualistic understanding of spirit and body from the Greeks and assigned the female half of humanity the role of body, and the male half the spirit or intellect. Dealing with evolution places us back in the company of Augustine and Aquinas, who were both forced to figure out how to reconcile powerful proto-scientific ideas with Christianity. That the physical laws explain everything? Does NASA really stand out as especially bad? Dear Editor: We now see more and more bicycles on our streets. Later authors such as Cicero and Augustine make their own contributions but it is St Thomas who gives natural law theory its great significance. St Thomas shares much of the Aristotelian idea of nature.
